Typhoon Krathon is heading towards Taiwan’s populated west coast, prompting the mobilization of nearly 40,000 troops to strengthen rescue efforts. The storm surge warning has been issued, and the coast guard is searching for 19 sailors who abandoned ship. Schools and offices in six cities and counties have closed, and the major port city of Kaohsiung has declared a holiday. The typhoon is expected to hit Kaohsiung as a category 4 storm, with gusts of over 150 kph. The defence ministry has over 38,000 troops on standby to deal with the typhoon.
