The hooch tragedy in Bihar’s Siwan and Saran districts has claimed at least 25 lives, with many more hospitalized and some losing their eyesight due to consuming spurious liquor. The government has arrested 12 people for selling the illicit alcohol and is implementing stricter measures to tackle the liquor mafia. This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in the state, with over 150 deaths reported since the liquor ban in 2016. The Chief Minister has convened a meeting to address the situation, but there are calls for harsher punishment for those responsible.
