On October 17, 2024, S. Arun Kumar Namboothiri was selected as the head priest of the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala, while Vasudevan Namboothiri was chosen as the head priest of the Malikappuram Devi temple. The selections were made through a drawing of lots from a list of candidates shortlisted by the Travancore Devaswom Board. They will begin their roles on November 16, 2024, coinciding with the start of the annual Mandala-Makaravilakku season at Sabarimala. The selection process was overseen by officials and child nominees of the Pandalam Palace.
