Sixteen individuals, including two women, have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 44-year-old man in Rebbena in August 2020. In addition to murder, they were also charged with robbery, outraging modesty of women, and rioting. The accused killed the man because he opposed his minor daughter’s relationship with the main accused, Jarupula Suresh. The judge imposed a fine of 1.49 lakh on the accused. This is the first case in the state where 16 accused were convicted and given life sentences. The judge relied on eyewitnesses and other evidence to pronounce them guilty. The incident occurred during a fight that broke out when the deceased opposed his daughter’s relationship with Suresh.
