Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill has signed a four-year contract extension worth $97 million, with $55 million guaranteed. He is the third member of the Lions’ 2021 draft class to sign an extension, following wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell. The Lions have also extended star running back David Montgomery and quarterback Jared Goff this season. McNeill, a third-round pick out of NC State, has been a key player for the Lions this season, recording 2.5 sacks and eight tackles in five games. His extension comes after a strong performance in a win over the Dallas Cowboys, where teammate Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious injury. The Lions will rely on McNeill to help fill the void left by Hutchinson’s absence.
