North Korea blows up roads near South Korean border as tensions soar

North Korea has destroyed parts of the disused roads that connect it to South Korea, escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The destruction comes after North Korea accused South Korea of sending drones carrying propaganda leaflets. North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, called for immediate military action in response to the drones, putting frontline artillery units on standby. This move aligns with Kim’s efforts to cut ties with South Korea and solidify it as the country’s main enemy. South Korea has warned it will punish North Korea if its citizens’ safety is threatened. This latest incident follows North Korea’s destruction of a liaison office in 2020 and the suspension of a joint military agreement in response to Pyongyang’s actions.
