The much-awaited caste survey in Telangana will begin before Diwali, with public hearings starting on Oct 24. The Congress had promised a caste census in their 2023 election manifesto, and now the Telangana Commission for Backward Classes is taking action. Over 80 staff and 10,000 supervisors will conduct a door-to-door survey to gather information on castes, socio-economic status, and more. Public hearings will be held in all 10 districts, allowing people to share their input. The survey results will be used to determine BC reservations. However, to exceed the 50% cap on reservations, either the Supreme Court must relax the rule or Parliament must pass a new law.
