Several opposition MPs boycotted a meeting of the parliamentary committee examining the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, alleging that the panel is not following rules. The meetings have been heated, with accusations made against Congress leaders for alleged involvement in Waqf land scams. The opposition walked out in protest, claiming that unproven allegations cannot be made against high dignitaries. The committee’s decision to call Hindu organizations for deposition on a law concerning Muslims also sparked controversy. The opposition members are planning to write to the Lok Sabha speaker about the committee’s functioning. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concerns over inviting organizations with extremist ideologies for deposition.
