This year, airfares for domestic flights in India have dropped significantly compared to last year, with average fares on popular routes like Mumbai-Delhi and Bengaluru-Kolkata decreasing by 34% and 38% respectively. This drop can be attributed to increased capacity and a recent decline in oil prices, according to a report by travel platform Ixigo. The CEO of Ixigo mentioned that last year, airfares surged around Diwali due to limited capacity, but this year, additional capacity has been added to meet the demand, leading to a 20-25% decrease in fares on major routes. Travelers can expect more affordable flight tickets this festive season.
