Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to objections raised by the BJP regarding the state government’s decision to withdraw cases from the 2022 Hubballi riots. He clarified that the final decision lies with the courts where the cases are being heard. The CM mentioned that a cabinet sub-committee, headed by the home minister, made the decision and it needs court approval. The BJP criticized the move as a Muslim appeasement policy, but senior minister Priyank Kharge stated that cases against BJP leaders would also be withdrawn. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted that the previous BJP government withdrew cases only against RSS and its party leaders, while the current government is not engaging in such narrow politics. The government found that some cases were filed under political duress, and those facing charges were not involved in the incident.
