Kenyan runner Ruth Chepngetich broke the world record at the Chicago Marathon, finishing in 2:09:56, nearly two minutes faster than the previous record. She became the first woman to run a marathon in under 2:10. Chepngetich dedicated her win to Kelvin Kiptum, who broke the men’s world record in the 2023 Chicago Marathon but tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this year. The race also saw John Korir of Kenya winning the men’s race. The event paid tribute to Kiptum with a moment of silence and memorial stickers for participants.
