‘Rs 64 lakh for errors’: Maths teacher fined for totalling mistake of 30 marks in class X exam | Ahmedabad News



In a surprising turn of events, a math teacher in Ahmedabad made a totaling error of 30 marks in a student’s class X board exam, causing the student to fail. The Gujarat State Education Board discovered the mistake during re-assessment applications. This year, 4,488 teachers were fined a total of Rs 64 lakh for totaling mistakes in class 10 and 12 board exams. It was found that many of the errors were made by math teachers. Admission to diploma courses relies on board exam results, prompting thousands of students to seek reassessment for subjects like math and science. Teachers were fined Rs 100 for each one-mark error, with common mistakes including not carrying forward numbers and not rounding off half marks.
