Centre yet to grant ‘point of call’ status to Kannur airport despite representations: Kerala govt



The Kerala government is pushing for ‘point of call’ status for Kannur airport to allow foreign airlines to operate from there. Despite repeated representations to the Centre and a recommendation from a parliamentary committee, the status has not been granted. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has personally met with Prime Minister Modi and the Civil Aviation Minister to address this issue. The State government is also seeking inclusion of the airport in the UDAN scheme. In response to concerns raised by UDF MLA Sajeev Joseph, efforts are being made to increase the number of flight services from Kannur airport, which is currently underutilized.
