The Commission for Air Quality Management reported to the Supreme Court that while farm fires have decreased by 50% in Punjab and Haryana over the past few years, the large number of overaged vehicles in these states is contributing to poor air quality in Delhi and NCR. The commission highlighted the lack of action by Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in impounding overaged vehicles. However, there has been an increase in penalties for polluting vehicles in these states. In terms of electric vehicles, Delhi has a significant number but lacks charging stations, while Haryana and UP are also working to increase charging infrastructure. The commission emphasized the need to improve public transport to reduce congestion and vehicular pollution.
