Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc partners with IIT Madras to develop rechargeable zinc-air battery



Hindustan Zinc, in collaboration with IIT Madras, is working on developing a revolutionary 1 kWh electrically rechargeable zinc-air battery prototype. This partnership aims to address the challenges posed by lithium-ion batteries, such as high cost and limited resources. Zinc-based alternatives offer a sustainable and economically viable solution for energy storage technology. The research team at IIT Madras, led by Aravind Kumar Chandiran, is focusing on enhancing energy storage systems with potential applications in renewable energy, data centers, and telecommunications. Zinc-air batteries are gaining popularity for their long-duration storage capabilities, durability, and affordability compared to lithium-ion batteries.
