The Transport Commissionerate in Kerala announced strict child safety rules for vehicles, including mandatory child restraint systems. However, the Transport Minister stated that fines would not be imposed for now. Instead, the Motor Vehicles department will focus on awareness campaigns to educate people on better practices. The Minister emphasized the importance of creating awareness rather than imposing rules. The department’s plan includes social media campaigns in October, warnings for violators in November, and enforcement with penalties in December. The department also outlined guidelines for child safety, including the use of child booster cushions and restraint systems based on age and height. The Minister confirmed that the awareness campaign will proceed as scheduled.
