Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defers decision on Kerala’s bridge proposal | Bengaluru News

Kerala’s request to expand the bridge across Kabini river in Karnataka for 24X7 traffic was deferred by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah. The Karnataka forest department rejected the proposal citing a Supreme Court judgment banning night traffic through tiger reserves. Siddaramaiah felt that an environmental impact assessment was needed before proceeding with the project due to potential tree cutting and submergence of areas. He also emphasized the importance of consulting with various stakeholders before making a decision. Kerala has been pushing for seamless access through tiger reserves for trade, transport, and tourism, and the bridge expansion is seen as a way to enhance eco-tourism and commercial activities in Kerala.
