AIADMK members in Chennai and across the state protested against the DMK government for raising property and other taxes, accusing them of burdening the people. The Transport Minister defended the government by pointing out that it was actually AIADMK who first increased property taxes. He mentioned that the property tax for residences and commercial properties was raised from 50% to 100% in 2018. The Minister also stated that AIADMK withdrew the property tax hike in 2019 due to local body elections. He also addressed concerns about electricity tariffs, noting that AIADMK’s decisions paved the way for tariff hikes through the UDAY scheme.
