Cardamom farmers in Idukki are facing a new threat from snail infestations, which are causing significant crop damage by devouring the new panicles and flowers of cardamom plants. The attacks have been severe in several areas, leaving farmers struggling to protect their plantations. Agriculture department officials are working with farmers to assess the damage and offer guidance, while researchers are studying the snail infestation to develop management strategies. Farmers are advised to use traps and Metaldehyde pellets to control the snails.
