The chairman of a House Homeland Security subcommittee is asking FEMA for details on its preparations for Hurricane Helene, which caused catastrophic flooding in several Southern states. FEMA received a letter from Rep. D’Esposito requesting information on forecasting models, resource positioning, and coordination with partners. FEMA confirmed receipt of the letter and will work with Congress on response efforts. Despite criticism from former President Trump, some North Carolina Republicans have praised FEMA’s response. FEMA has provided over $110 million in federal assistance, deployed thousands of personnel, and distributed meals, water, generators, and tarps to support recovery efforts in the region.
