The Women Prison and Correctional Home at Attakulangara in Thiruvananthapuram is set to undergo renovation with the public works department sanctioning Rs 34 lakh for the project. The dilapidated condition of the cells posed a security risk, leading to a reduction in the number of inmates. The renovation plan includes replacing floors and bars, plastering roofs and walls, and upgrading toilets, verandas, and the kitchen. The historical significance of the building must be preserved during renovation. Once completed, the prison will be able to accommodate more inmates in improved conditions, addressing concerns of overcrowding and security risks.
