Four college volleyball teams forfeit against San José State over possible trans player

Four universities, including Utah State University, have forfeited women’s volleyball matches against San José State University due to controversy surrounding the gender identity of one of the players. The teammate in question has not publicly confirmed her identity as a transgender woman. The issue arose after a lawsuit was filed against the NCAA, arguing that their policy allowing trans women to compete on women’s teams violates Title IX. Conservative websites have speculated about the player’s gender identity, leading to forfeitures and backlash from trans rights advocates. The NCAA has stated that they will continue to promote fair competition for all student-athletes. Idaho and Utah’s laws prohibiting trans student athletes from playing on teams that align with their gender identities are currently blocked by lawsuits.
