The Communist Party of India (Marxist) criticized retired DySP P. Sukumaran for joining the BJP, accusing him of having a tainted past. They accused him of using third-degree torture methods and falsely implicating innocent individuals during his service. The CPI(M) leader also claimed that Sukumaran targeted political opponents and misused his powers for political gain. The BJP has not yet responded to these allegations, but the CPI(M) leader condemned the party for welcoming individuals with questionable backgrounds.
