Assam records 86% drop in rhino poaching since 2016: CM

A forest guard had to drive away a one-horned rhino blocking vehicles carrying delegates inside Kaziranga National Park. The Chief Minister of Assam announced an 86% drop in rhino poaching since 2016, crediting Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to conservation. India is home to over 2,850 one-horned rhinos, with Kaziranga National Park being the largest habitat. The ‘Kaziranga model’ of conservation, including a special protection force and community involvement, has been successful in protecting the species. The government and local communities are working together to ensure the safety and preservation of this iconic animal.
