The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Chennai has filed a corruption case against former AIADMK minister R Vaithilingam, marking the second such case against a former minister in three days. The case was filed based on complaints and evidence provided by the anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam. The FIR alleges that Vaithilingam and his sons, along with others, received a bribe of 27.9 crores for granting permission for a construction project. The money was allegedly routed through a shell company owned by Vaithilingam’s sons. The FIR also raises questions about the legitimacy of the shell company’s financial transactions.
