US Senator proposes barring Chinese auto firms using third countries to evade tariffs



Republican US Senator Marco Rubio has proposed legislation to prevent Chinese manufacturers from evading tariffs by relocating production to countries with lower import tariffs, such as Mexico and Vietnam. The US Trade Representative recently increased tariffs on Chinese imports to protect American industries from China’s trade practices. Rubio has accused Chinese auto firms of bypassing tariffs by shifting production to other countries. The Biden administration has also expressed concerns about Chinese companies setting up factories in other countries to avoid tariffs. The US and Mexico have taken steps to combat the circumvention of US tariffs on steel and aluminum.
