Couple dies while snorkeling during Hawaii babymoon

Family and friends are grieving the loss of a young couple from Washington state, Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk, who tragically died while snorkeling on vacation in Hawaii. Sophia was pregnant and the couple had an 18-month-old son. They were found unresponsive by first responders near Āhihi-Kīnaʻu Natural Area Reserve on Maui. The couple was brought to shore for CPR but unfortunately, they could not be saved. The family suspects that the full face snorkel masks they were wearing may have contributed to the incident. The surviving toddler is being cared for by family members. The Tsaruks will be remembered in a celebration of life and burial service in Washington.
