With Arvind Kejriwal Stepping Down as Delhi CM And Atishi as Stand-in, How AAP Is Mirroring Arch-rival BJP



A chief minister stepping down due to corruption allegations, history repeating itself with the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi. Like Madan Lal Khurana in 1996, Arvind Kejriwal resigned after facing charges. The BJP’s Sahib Singh Verma took over in 1998 but faced backlash due to the onion crisis. Similarly, Atishi is now stepping in for Kejriwal until the 2025 elections. Women leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Atishi seem to be safe bets during crises. With AAP holding a majority, the upcoming elections will test their mandate. Atishi will be Delhi’s third woman chief minister after Dikshit, aiming to continue the party’s success.
