Low-cost electricity essential for stable economy: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is focused on reducing high electricity tariffs to provide relief to consumers and boost the economy. The government has faced criticism for approving a tariff hike in line with IMF conditions. Plans are being made to rationalize power tariffs through various proposals, including closing down domestic Independent Power Producers. Shehbaz emphasized the importance of low-cost electricity for a stable economy and urged the newly appointed Discos members to work hard to tackle mismanagement and corruption. He also highlighted the challenges of power theft, circular debt, line losses, and weak transmission systems. The government is in talks with China to run power plants with a mix of coal to save money.
