Mounting protests over quarries in Wayanad stir political upheaval 



After the devastating Chooralmala landslide, there has been increasing opposition to granite quarries in the district, leading to widespread protests and political tension. In Mullankolly, the grama panchayat president P.K. Vijayan is considering resigning due to disagreements over quarry operations. The area currently has three operational quarries, with licenses granted for two more and applications pending for nine additional sites. The recent protests have prompted the civic body to issue a stop memo to all functioning quarries and request the District Collector’s intervention for site inspections. Despite concerns, the District Congress Committee believes the issue can be resolved amicably.
