The Tamil Nadu government has terminated a lease agreement from 1946 that granted 160 acres of land in Chennai to the Madras Race Club for 99 years for a nominal fee. The government order has directed the district collector to take possession of the land, stating that the land should be used for public purposes such as offices, gardens, and open spaces. The Madras Race Club has been given 14 days to remove any movable properties, and they have 30 days to apply for compensation for permitted structures. The club has approached the Madras High Court, seeking more time before eviction.
