The BJP has cautioned its former MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to avoid making negative comments about wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, especially in light of the upcoming Assembly polls in Haryana. Singh’s remarks were not well-received by certain sections in Haryana and were seen as a distraction from the BJP’s campaign efforts. BJP President J.P. Nadda has reportedly advised Singh to maintain a more balanced approach towards the wrestlers, who had accused him of harassment during his tenure as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India. Singh had previously accused the wrestlers of being influenced by Congress leaders, sparking a controversy. The BJP is concerned that Singh’s comments could harm the party’s image in Haryana, where they are seeking to return to power for a third term. Vinesh Phogat, who recently narrowly missed an Olympic medal, has garnered public sympathy, making Singh’s remarks ill-advised from a political standpoint.
