Evacuations ordered as fire burns foothills of national forest east of L.A. amid heat wave

A wildfire in San Bernardino, California, called the Line Fire, has caused evacuations to be expanded as it burns uncontrolled along the edge of the San Bernardino National Forest. The blaze has charred about 11 square miles of grass and chaparral, creating a thick cloud of dark smoke in the area. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and about 500 firefighters are working to contain it. The fire has the potential for large growth in the next 12 hours. Despite the intense heat wave in the region, no injuries or damage to homes or structures have been reported. Downtown Los Angeles reached a high of 112 degrees Fahrenheit, marking a rare occurrence in the city’s history.
